Douglas Ramsey's Diary [14/18] by Benway Warning: This story is not very nice, but then the world isn't very nice either. If want escape, read elsewhere. This story is not intended for children of any age. Some characters in this story belong to Marvel. Everything else belongs to me. *************************************************** April 19/89 I am now in a private room. I was in the basement, and I did not hurt myself. I fell asleep on some old newspapers behind the freezer, and when I woke up, someone was down there with me. I was really scared, but then this English voice said that he knew I was there. He sounded a bit like Eric Idle. I got out, and found this doctor sitting on a crate smoking a really bad smelling cigarette, with a book in his hand. He was hiding too, because I knew they were really strict about smoking here. I said something about this and he said something about it being insane that even the patients couldn't smoke in here when there was fuck all else to do. His name was Dr Ellwood, and he said that they had been looking for me. I couldn't say anything, and started crying again. Eventually I told him what happened. He said something nasty about Dr. Lovell, and then asked me to wait there. Then he left, and came back a moment later with some cans of Sprite. Then he took me out through another door I hadn't seen and asked me to wait in the hall and to trust him. He said that he didn't want his secret place found, and I said I understood. He left his book with me, and I stared reading it. It was an anthology about France called the Chained Duck and itw as kind of mean and sick, but funny. Then he came back with another doctor called Dr. Wayne who talked to me about what happened. They said that I would not be going back to the ward. Dr. Ellwood asked if I liked the book, and I said that I did. He then asked what I thought of it and I told him. He looked puzzled, and then said something like, "They don't teach French before high school here, do they?". I looked at the book, It wasn't in English. I have never read a word of French in my life.
