The blood from the refrigerator that Steve always kept for Frank took the edge off my hunger, just like they said it would, all those years ago when they planned all this. Pete always said the Council always plans centuries ahead, but he meant it as an insult. We never knew the truth of it. I thought they'd come for me in twenty days, not twenty years. They plan that far ahead, and anyone who watches and learns knows that their plans never work as they intended. I went to them, offering my life to free my country. I was young. I was stupid. I had no idea what my life was worth. Steve taught me. I was in Guantanamo for five years. He thought he broke me. Maybe I was already broken, and he just broke me more. Pete came to save me, tonight. He was wasting his time. There wasn't anything left of what I was to save. I can't hardly remember anything from before. Not my name, not where I'm from. All I know is it's somewhere in the South. I can't forget the plan, though. They made sure of that. In the plan, I'm supposed to make a call and invite them in, but that's not going to happen. There's a new plan. I'm taking over Steve's show. I'm pretty sure we're the only ones left in here. I've already called McCoy. He's got New York secured, and Stark's held off the Sentinels here. If I was careful, I'd have them both killed by morning, but I going to need new secretaries of State and Defence. There aren't too many folks I can count on, and I think I can keep these two where I want'em. This one's not so lucky. She's an ugly little thing, uglier even than me. I went veiled for a reason, and the Change didn't fix it all up like I thought it would. I think the Change reflects some ugliness inside, and what I'm going to do to her is ugly. She's tough and she's potentially useful, but she'd need blood to live beyond the next few minutes and she isn't going to get it. It's better that she goes and that I take what's left, then walk out the front door alone as First Victim. The last person I need working for me is someone who almost got away. [Next: Frank Castle]
