The Flight of Time, Prelude

written by: Carrie Van Steenburg

The following is my first attempt at Vertigo Fan Fiction, although I'm a big Sandman fan. All standard disclaimers apply: Sandman and related characters are owned by DC/Vertigo. Kasha, Time, and all others are MINE! No one else's. Who'd wanna take credit for their creation anyway? All comments go to me, Carrie, care of Li'Tanya at mansmv57@oneonta.edu put "Flight of Time" in the subject line so she can identify it...ok? Welcome to my world....

He stood there looking over his great kingdom. The Dream King just stood there, unmoving, unthinking, waiting. *She* was coming to see him on important business. What is was about, he did not know. All he knew was that *she* was coming. The *she* was no other than Kasha, the eternal guardian of Time himself. He felt her approaching through the sunless land. The peace and tranquility that usually followed her were no more. Her aura had changed. It was of fear and dispair. Heartache and need.

Looking up, Morpheus saw Kasha. She simply walked. With the power she held at her fingertips, she could have simply materialized before him. The Guardians of the gates to the Dream Castle allowed her entrance. The Dream Lord's assistant, Lucien, showed her to Lord Morpheus, on his balcony.

Morpheus had to catch his breath. Everytime he laid eyes on this creature, older than the Endless, she retained and gained more beauty than anything known. Her long tresses easily fell about her, putting emphasis on her lithe body. Her eyes were empty, as usual, but he always saw the most incredible and amazing scenes within them. Her face was that of Helen of Troy. Outstanding. He wished to bow down to her, but decided against it. The last time he did caused a scandal that he can never live down.

"Lord Morpheus." Kasha calmly stated. He nodded his head, bidding her to speak. "I come on a mission, a mission our Lord, Time, wishes you to partake in."

"What kind of mission my Lady? What concerns him so, to ask me to leave my realm?"

"The end of existence."
