Jubilee woke up with M literally screaming in her mind. *Get up! They are in trouble!* It wasn't hard to figure out who the 'they ' were. M was very protective of Celeste. Quickly, Jubilee woke up the team using the panic button.
She dressed in some loose street clothes while she started to formulate a plan. Jono could not get near that damping field, he would die if he lost control of his mutant powers. Skin would either have a hard time without his mutant powers or have no extra skin to worry about. Because Ariel was involved, he would be there. M would feel about the same way about Celeste, but since Jubilee didn't know the exact nature of M's powers, it would be hard to say how she would react to suddenly being without them. Mondo wasn't good in a potentially dangerous situation and someone needed to stay with Franklin, Artie and Leech. That meant that Paige, Ev, Skin, and possibly M would be joining her to get her friends out of trouble.
But what about Sam? He might feel that this was too dangerous for the group and try to rescue them alone or call for help, but this was a Generation-X thing. The X-men, X-factor, and X-force were all getting information about 'Operation: Zero Tolerance.' With the huge storm hitting Muir Island and that business in London, it was out of the question to ask them to come. Banshee had called last night to say that he was grounded, and Moira was feeling bad. With Emma incommunicado, it was up to them to save the sisters. The only question was how to get Sam to see it that way.
M was waiting in the war room when the team got there. To Jubilee's surprise, Sam stood back and let the team make their own plans. He felt that, in order to learn how to do something, they had to try it. Sam would only act in a advisory role.
That fact left them a little taken back. They had never tried to plan something like this before. Paige and Jubilee started making plans and Skin started to check the equipment. Sam looked on with a smile. It was time this group began to respond like the New Mutants did.
Skin wasn't happy with the equipment. Banshee had planned on using mutant powers where ever possible and hadn't stocked the best in listening equipment. "I'll meet everybody at the Mickey D's close to the apartment," he said as he walked out of the room. Everett wordlessly followed.
At the garage, Angelo turned to his friend and told him to leave because, where he planned on going, it wasn't safe. Everett refused. "We are a team and we are friends. I'm with you no matter what."
"Get in the car." Quickly and silently, he drove to a downtown location. "Stay here," Angelo ordered. In a moment he was back with state-of-the-art equipment.
"How did you get that?"
Angelo's face was dark as he answered. "Frost Enterprises has a good line of credit with the Network." Angelo knew about the Network, a group of cold-hearted professional thieves and murders, mostly old gang members, located somewhere in Arizona. When he had run with the Angels, he had heard stories about the headquarters, which had every possible reward a man could want; the best in drugs and drinks, the latest electronics, and a stable full of women.
"You must really like Ariel." Something told Ev that Skin didn't like coming here.
"Si, but I'll never do anything about it. Celeste was right, we are too different." He hung a left and drove past what the news media called Death Alley.
"Celeste would never discourage you from dating her sister."
"Ariel is kind, gentle and innocent- in every since of the word. I've run with a gang for eight years and have two kids." Ev couldn't believe that his friend had two children. "Don't think me bad, but with the government, fathers are discouraged from having anything to do with their kids and checks are better to single mothers."
"Does Ms. Frost know?"
"I think so, but Celeste's rules make it clear that her sister will not get knocked up- I don't think Celeste could handle having her sister having a kid." When he had told Celeste that he had had two kids, she bought him a box of condoms and made him learn how to use them. Then she lectured him on STDs and AIDS. There were times that she earned her nickname Madre. "Ariel and I just don't belong in the same world."
"Oh." Ev looked at his friend while he tried to decide if he needed to say anything. What could be said, be a man and take care of those kids? Angelo was believed to be dead.
Jubilee took one last look at the plans. "Sam, could you come here?" Sam walked over. "I think this abandoned building is the best base. It's just outside of M's no-power radius and across the street. What do you think?"
"Ah think that you have to _know_. We want to be close, but how can we git in without gittin' noticed? There's no back door to the building, and making one would make a lot of noise."
Paige looked over the plans again. It was a major problem. Their best bet was to use M's telepathy to clear out anybody in the building and then climb in through a side window. The only problem was that they didn't know why the sisters were being held hostage, so they didn't know how it concerned them. There were two image inducers on campus, and six people that might need them.
"We go in the back window, it's against an alley, so no one will see. Ah husk into a different shape. You wear glasses and a wig. M borrows some clothes from Jubilee and Ev wears a hat so they don't look the same. Jubilee and Angelo, as they are the most likely to be noticed get the image inducers." Sam nodded. By gosh, he just might teach these students some practical skills yet.
Jubilee finished marking the map for utility mains and rolled it up. Slipping it into a packed book bag, she did one last check. They were ready to go.
