Since they were just trying to capture them, as opposed to ripping their throats out, Buffy faced clawed hands trying to grab her this time. The first hand that tried to grab her had the arm attached to it broken. The creature screamed in pain and tried again with the same result to the other arm. Screaming in pain, he just stood and growled at Buffy. Feeling this should be taken care of, Buffy shot out a sidekick and broke his knee. Now he was down. Logan rushed up beside Buffy. Glancing behind him he saw Kai go into a fighting stance, but Lord Beavis had disappeared. He turned back around and caught the next charging creature in his powerful hands and flipped him up and over Kai's head to fall behind her. He figured she could handle that one. The next one got spiked on Logan's sharp claws, going down immediately. Buffy had stopped her next admirer with a kick to the stomach, knocking the wind out of it, and following the up the kick to the creature with an elbow strike to the creature's throat. Another one down, this one with a crushed larynx. Ignoring the pile Buffy and Logan were making, Kai was working on her new friend. After a few blows to the friend’s chest to soften him up and work him towards the cage bars beside him, she decided she had played enough. She got close to him and with a tiger claw strike across its face temporarily blinded him. Temporarily was enough. Taking the creature’s head in her hands by the hair and ears, she slammed in into the bars, several times. The effect was that she stove in his head, and bent the bars a little. Wiping off her hands she turned around again. Buffy and Logan had just downed the last two attackers. "Round one," said Kai. "That wasn't so bad." She looked down at the pile and then back up at the doorway they had just came through. "Oops." "What do you mean, 'oops'?" Logan queried, looking at Kai. "Look behind you." Logan and Buffy looked at the doorway and saw a flying bundle of brown, furry bodies rushing towards them. Judging by their facial expression, this group was going to just grab. "Come on!" Kai yelled and started back down the other end of the hall at a dead run with Logan and Buffy close on her heels. As they approached a bend in the hall, their sense of the fear around them grew stronger. Rounding the hall, they stopped dead in their tracks and stared at the cages. These were not animals. At least they didn't look like them. These appeared to be the failed experiments from Herr Beavis. These huddled piles of flesh and fur just looked at them, balefully, as the three again started to proceed. Many just looked like lumps of fur. The normal body and facial parts one would expect were either missing, or they had too many of them. Buffy put a hand to her mouth, the ice cream starting to make its way back out. She had looked at what looked like a fur rug, until it rolled over and she saw no fur on its other side, just one eye and a small mouth. She could have sworn it mouthed the words "help me" as she ran past. Her dismay increased at they approached the end of the hall. It was closed off in a large metal door. The door was sealed with a large padlock. "Good thing we brought along our can opener," Kai said, looking at Logan. With a schlukk! sound, the claws came out and with one swipe the lock fell onto the floor with a heavy thud. "Happy to be of assistance, m'lady," Logan said as he bowed to Kai. Then grabbing the door handle, wrenched it open. It was dark inside, but that didn't slow him down. He and Kai ran in and hit a light switch. They stopped as they saw more of the brown creatures, only these were already dead. Most were headless, but some appeared to just have been run through. Kai and Logan looked at Buffy. "Hey, I just got here," she said, glancing around. On the other end of the room she saw a figure in black rush out. "There!" she yelled, pointed at the disappearing figure. The three started toward the figure at a run. "The Beave is mine," said Logan, racing ahead. The figure had disappeared, but the three raced down the empty hallway and into a large room. Seeing movement out of the corner of his eye, Logan followed it to a hidden doorway. Not the subtle type, he punched through where he had seen it spring shut and forced the door open. Another empty hallway ran before him. This one was covered in thick, velvety wall hangings. They ran down to the end, but saw no doorways. Logan's subtle attitude catching on, all three proceeded to rip wall hangings down onto the floor. "Here!" yelled Kai, throwing aside a hanging to reveal another door. Opening it she darted through it. The room was dark, but again she found a switch. In front of her was a row of coffins with their lids open. From behind the lids stepped the coffin occupants. Eight vampires hissed and came at the three without any pleasantries or bantering. Buffy's hand went to her back and without thinking about it withdrew the sword. This seemed quite natural to her, holding this well-balanced tool of death and honor. The same feelings Logan might have had as his claws came out. Buffy turned to the first two coming at her, holding the blade in a classic frontal defense posture, and said, "Good evening, boys. Its slayer time." With a lightening flash the blade flicked out. Both vampires stared at her without moving as a thin line of blood appeared across both their necks. The bodies fell to the floor, but the heads rolled apart as both pieces became dust. "Nice," said Kai. She had gone to an older wooden casket and performed a little modification on its lid with her fists. The results were two nice wooden stakes, now held securely and looking very intimidating in both her fists as she faced off against three vampires. "I see why these are hiding down here," said Logan. "They have to be the ugliest blood-suckers of the lot." Upon saying this, the two in front of him leapt on him. One immediately went flying across the room into a wall, and the other knocked him down and started pounding on his face. Not one to enjoy being hammered on, Logan's right fist smashed out into the vampire's snarling face, knocking him back off. The other one came at him from the rear, and again was thrown. This time he landed on one of the caskets, snapping off its lid with a crash. The two readied themselves and came again. This time they came at him from both sides. Kai had plenty to worry about herself. Her three had cornered her and were slowly closing in. They didn't appear to be the type to rush in like their dead compadres. One particularly deformed looking one came in front of the other two. She was having a hard time trying to keep from looking in his eyes. He was so ugly that those deep eyes seemed like a magnet, pulling her towards him. Slowly pulling her in, like quicksand. They seemed so peaceful. Why was she trying to kill this man with the deep, peaceful eyes? "Kai!" yelled Buffy. Kai heard the yell as from afar. Like an annoying mosquito that should be ignored and it would go away. Again Buffy yelled, "Kai, snap out of it! NOW!" That got her attention. Slowly rising to the surface of her own consciousness, she realized she was two feet away from the first vampire, and his arms were out as if to embrace her. "Not on our first date," she said, and shot out her right arm, wooden stake impaling her vampire and instantly turning him to dust. Not waiting to see the dust settle, the last two jumped her. She impaled one on his way in, but impaling a stomach doesn't cut it, so she went down in a heap with the two on top of her, pinning her arms and stakes, and bleeding on her. That didn't go over so well, so she flipped both legs up and threw her body up. She didn't lose both of them, but she got one. The one who was left tried to grab an arm again as the other jumped back at her. She got one of her stakes up and managed to impale the correct body part this time as he came down on her. Buffy was slowly circling her antagonist, trying to get closer to Kai. Her sparring partner would feint and then dart back, knowing the type of death that could come from that blade. She never wavered her hold on her new friend. New to her, at least, but definitely her friend. Suddenly his arm floated up towards her face. She pretended to jump back and trip. He saw the stutter steps as she appeared off-balance, and jumped in at her. Pretending to fall turned into a real fall as she stepped on something on the floor and twisted her ankle. She saw him coming in as she fell, and the act of throwing her arm out to try to catch her balance now became a deadly strike. Her arm, extended by the sword, swept out from her left to her right, going down to now catch her fall. On its way it just happened to take off the head of her vampire. Logan watched the two charge him, and ducked as they came at him. They tangled in each other’s arms as they rushed together. He grabbed one by the neck and proceeded to squeeze. He took the other one by the neck in his other arm and also squeezed his neck. With both choking in his grasp his claws came out and, with a flick of both wrists, both heads hit the floor in a cloud of dust. He and Buffy both turned together to see Kai blinded by the dust of the last vampire she had killed, while the second one tried to get close enough to bite her. She was holding him off with her bare hands, often getting a good strike in while he continued to try. Buffy started towards her but fell down again on her injured ankle. Logan didn't fail. He leapt on the vampire, pinning his arms. As Kai got enough of a clear view to grab her stake, she impaled the vampire violently. "Ow!" yelled Logan, grabbing his chest through the cloud of smoke. "That hurt! Might have sprung a leak if you had gotten anymore carried away with your slayin'." Kai grinned through watering, dust-filled eyes up at Logan. "Teach you to get so close, bub." Logan stood and helped her up. They both glanced at Buffy as she got to feet and limped over to them. "Blew an ankle," she said. "Not bad considering that my friendly fang boys all blew a neck." She smiled at them and glanced around the room. There appeared to be another door at the end of the room, but is was in a shaded corner. All three headed toward it. Buffy limping along brought up the rear. She had sheathed her sword to make sure she didn't have any problems falling on it. It seemed a bit too nice to lean on, anyway. Stepping into the next room they all saw the back of Lord Beavis on the other side of the room, bent over by a large throne. He appeared to be changing as they walked in, as they could clearly see him pulling his pants up. Without looking up or turning around, they heard his strong voice boom clearly off the wall. "Welcome, my guests. This evening's entertainment is over. Now, make your peace and prepare your souls to die." This, thought Buffy, from a vampire genius who wears Barney underwear.
