Author's Note: Okay, uhm... no named characters, no named places, no mention of mutants, FOHers, cosmic rays...uhm... look, I'm not sure if you can TELL, but this poem is about Cable (who isn't mine), set in the Marvel Universe (which also isn't mine), and it's for Alicia and Dia (who also don't belong to me, at least not very much, but it's late and I'm feeling sentimental.

Stars In My Coffee

By Dyce

Star light, star bright, shining through the

Gloom of night, grant to me a wish,

Keep me safe, my loved ones whole, and

Let every night be just like this.

Let there be nights so full of stars,

That God himself could not keep count,

With those I love all safe abed,

And walls to keep the danger out.

Let there be nights, at least a few,

When my cares can wait 'til morning.

And I can sit, and watch the stars,

Me and my coffee, until dawning.

My coffee, my most faithful friend,

My single stay, my comfort giver,

Asks naught for all its kind support,

And takes toll only on my liver.

Aha, a flight of fancy, that,

And would they not all be surprised

To know I hide a love of jest,

Behind my blank and glowing eyes.

Let there be nights like this sometimes,

When peace of sorts mantles our home,

And for one night, just now and then,

When I can sit out here alone.

To smell the breeze, all sweet with pine,

To feel and think and just let be,

And notice, if I tilt the cup,

The stars reflect in my coffee.
