Subject: [OTL]: Love Is All You Need 1/1 Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 04:22:56 PST From: "Dyce of Destiny" Reply-To: outsidethelines@Mailing-List.net To: outsidethelines@Mailing-List.net Well, this was inspired by several fics in a similar vein recently posted, all of which I much enjoyed and none of the names of which I can remember. Ain't caffiene grand? Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, and if anyone actually wants to post it, they may do so, if they let me know. :) Naturally, none of the characters mentioned are mine, and no profit is being made. If anyone disagrees with my portrayal of said characters, they may feel free to do so without malice on either side. Merry Christmas to all! Love Is All You Need By Dyce They watched her disapprovingly, and she looked away, not wanting to meet their eyes. They were waiting for her to respond, but all she could think of was the same thing that she always said. That They never accepted. "I need him." She offered forlornly. They didn't listen. They never listened. She hung her head as a wave of concern tinged with irritation washed over her. They only did this because They were worried about her, she knew that. They loved her and wanted the best for her. She appreciated that they cared, truly she did. She just wished that They would understand that she needed him. "I do. I need him." She repeated, a little more firmly. They sighed. "No, you don't. We've been through this, child. We don't need him. You don't need him. We don't need anyone but us." She shook her head. That was all very well for Them to say. They were nice and safe in her dreams. She was the one who had to face the world outside. And for that, she needed him. He would protect her, and keep her safe. He had promised. As always, They knew what she was thinking. "You don't need him to protect you. You can keep yourself safe. You don't need him. We don't need him." "I DO need him!" She cried passionately. Why couldn't they understand? He loved her. He had promised. He would be there for her. He loved her. "Yes, he does," They agreed. She looked at Them in surprise. Perhaps she was winning Them over at last. Finally They would stop nagging at her, and she could be happy. Everything would be all right if she could just convince Them. They looked at her soberly. "But do you love him?" Their eyes searched hers, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't look away. "I..." Yes, I love him, more than anything else in the whole world! She wanted to cry. We are one, always, forever. Our hearts beat together, our souls merge... I love him more than life itself... I love him... I love him... "I... I need him." She whispered, drooping like a flower. "And he loves me. That's enough." She fled from Them then, from their disappointed expressions and sad eyes. They had no right! They couldn't do this to her! She did love him, she did! They watched her go. Slowly, they shook their heads. "It's not enough." Meggan said sadly. "You think it is now, but it isn't." "Soon you'll understand." Meggan agreed, shaking her head ruefully. "Need can't replace love, and it's love you need." "You should listen to us now, and save him the heartbreak of losing you later, if you really love him so much." Meggan said scornfully, tossing her head. "It'll all end in tears, you mark my words." She didn't listen, of course. She never did. Sighing, They retreated back to whatever silent corner of her mind They stayed in when they weren't trying to get her to listen to reason. * * * Meggan huddled closer to Brian's solid warmth, not daring to close her eyes again. They were wrong. She loved him, and he loved her, and that was all there was to it. She and Brian belonged together. She'd make Them understand, and then everything would be perfect. She and Brian would be together forever, and They wouldn't interfere anymore. Because she needed him. She did.
