When Angel entered the apartment Spike was already there, showered and barefoot curled up on the couch playing one of his video games.
"Going to have a shower," Angel muttered.
When he got out of the shower he found warm blood in the microwave which he drank gratefully and returned to the living room.
Spike was wearing headphones, allowing Angel to put his music on and enjoy the tumbler of whiskey he found waiting for him.
He picked up a book and sat down. After a few minutes a pair of feet made their way into his lap. Angel never understood how Spike managed to continue to play his game and keep his feet in Angel's lap but Angel wasn't going to argue.
After he finished his level Spike switched it off and moved around so his head was resting in Angel's lap.
This was the part of the day Angel loved the most, relaxing and running his fingers through Spike's hair as the blond dozed.
They hated each other's music, could never go to the movies together and during the day things almost always deteriorated into a fight between them.
But here in the apartment the little things had changed between them.
While the sex was amazing it was the quiet moments that soothed Angel's soul. No fighting, no arguments over who was top dog, just Spike resting his head in Angel's lap while Angel read.
It was the little things that made Angel realise that he was loved.

When Spike heard the shower turn off he got up from the couch and put some blood into the microwave. He poured a tumbler of whiskey before returning to his game and slipping headphones on.
He had changed to one of his strategy games when Angel got home as they were more comfortable to play with his legs stretched out and still watch the screen.
He had fessed up to the strategy games after 'outing' Angel on his addiction to mystery novels. Neither felt any need to keep secrets from the other any more and although they still fought regularly the ancient bitterness was missing from their exchanges.
After a while Spike ended his game removed the headphones and swivelled around to rest his head in Angel's lap. His hair was still blond despite Angel's best efforts but Spike compromised by not gelling his hair after his last shower and they both got to enjoy the results.
If he was honest Spike liked to do those little things for Angel, preparing him blood and pouring him a drink at the end of the day.
Seeing the brooding look melt away from the chocolate brown eyes and a long missed tenderness appear was payment aplenty for the younger vampire especially when combined with the touch of strong fingers through his hair.
When he looked into those chocolate brown eyes now he knew he was loved and the little things were worth it.
