Miles to Go Epilogue

"Ever ridden the Greyhound before?"

Kim looked up from her duffel bag.  "Spoiled middle-class thief?"

I laughed.  "Guess not.  Can you sleep in a moving vehicle?  It's a *long*
way to Florida."

Kim looked down at her duffel bag, frowning.  "Can we trust Cash?"

I rubbed the back of my neck.  "We don't have much choice.  But that aside,"
I paused, remembering the gentle look in his eyes as he reassured me, the
same way Kim had, that I was not the monster I thought Stone to be. "Yeah, I
think we can."

Kim shoved clothes into the bag violently.  "I still want to kill him," she
blurted.  "I wonder how I can after seeing him with that little boy.  He
threw *you* away to save him! I can't help but wonder if I'm just as much of
a monster as he is."

I guess it was my turn to reassure Kim.  I reached out to take her hand,
brushing aside the clothes she was frantically trying to pack.  "You're
grieving.  He just murdered your parents in cold blood.  He deserves to die.
It's just harder to think so after realising that he's human too."
*Barely.*  My cold cynical side added silently.  I jerked my head towards
the door.  "We'd better get going, or we'll miss our bus."

Kim zipped her bag, then slung it over her shoulder.  "Ever seen Gone With
the Wind?"

"Beats me."

"There's a part where Scarlett, the main character, says some nonsense about
worrying about it tomorrow.  For once, I think that's a good idea."
